Memphis Coffee Shops Round 2
This erratic winter weather has given me plenty of motivation to continue my search for the perfect cup of coffee. On my first coffee shop rounds, I found a favorite – Muddy’s Bake Shop & Coffee. While I still love Muddy’s (and French Truck is another fav), I continue to venture around town to see what other places have in store.
In my second coffee shop rounds, I visited three spots and below you’ll find them from least to most favorite.
Tamp & Tap

Recently, I was meeting a friend downtown for breakfast (because who doesn’t love breakfast) and we decided on Tamp & Tap. This coffee shop opened right before I left Memphis for grad school, and I was happy to see it was still in operation. Tamp & Tap has a wide variety of specialty coffee beverages as well as tea. The food menu is also expansive with breakfast sandwiches, breakfast burritos, avocado toast, soup, salads, and sandwiches.
On what was a very chilly day, I made my way downtown, found parking, and ordered a latte with cinnamon-chicory. This is a rendition of the “Crescent” – cold brew, cinnamon-chicory, and cream. I’ve been on a cinnamon kick ever since having Muddy’s “Cafe con Miel.” My hot Crescent was tasty but, in retrospect, I think the cold brew version would have been better. The latte was a bit too sweet for me but the flavors were delightful in the moment.

Coffee & ice cream. Is there any more I need to say? I kinda hoped I would hate Levee Creamery since it’s so close to where I live and work, but alas it is quite tasty… the coffee anyways. I have exercised supreme self control and have not even sample their ice cream yet. Unbelievable, right?
As I said, I’ve been on a cinnamon kick, and my first coffee here was the cinnamon latte, very very good. Not too sweet. Not too cinammon-y (if there could be too much cinnamon). Just smooth. And, they serve French Truck beans for their drip coffee so you know I love it. Also, check out the latte art.

Taping an on-location podcast for Verbally Effective brought us to the Marshall Arts Gallery to interview Jamond Bullock where his work was on display for the Young, Gifted, and Dope Episode 2 art show.
Having already taped one in-studio podcast, the team was in desperate need of some coffee. Luckily, Edge Alley was right across the street. Verbally Effective host, Ena Esco, and I walked over and grabbed a couple mochas and a cortado for me.
This was my first time at Edge Alley but definitely not our last as Ena and I popped over for brunch a few days later after buying some prints from the Young, Gifted, and Dope merchandise day and artist talk back.
Edge Alley’s coffee is superb. The cortado was perfectly balanced and exactly what I needed to power me through a very long workday. I even thoroughly enjoyed the drip coffee. Besides the coffee, Edge Alley’s atmosphere and decor is bright and inviting. Definitely a place to check out.
